6 Best AI Videos You Can Watch Right Now

Whether you hate AI or love it, there’s no denying that it is the technology of the moment. Like any technology used for creation, the limitations of the medium shape the end result. We’ve collected some of the best AI videos that lean in to the constraints of artificial intelligence to make something interesting, and often strange.

AI still needs to improve quite a bit before it measures up to the quality of motion capture or expert animation but there are some mind-blowing AI tools out there that helped make these videos possible. As you watch, remember that each one of these videos was created not just by AI but by a creative person or team with a vision in mind.

Airhead by Shy Kids

Made with Sora

This is a really smart use of AI because it makes stylistic choices that actively avoid some of the most common drawbacks of AI generated images. Even better, it turns those limitations into the focus of the video. A man with a balloon head might not have occurred to someone who wasn’t facing the limitations of their medium. It’s part of a series of short videos featuring the balloon-headed character.

Volvo – For Life (Fan Spec Commercial) by hellolaco

Made with RunwayML Gen-3 Alpha

This commercial was made by someone who wanted to see what RunwayML Gen-3 could do, not by Volvo. Yet, at first glance, many consumers might not notice the difference. The motion is fairly smooth, and even the one shot with a human in the scene looks fairly realistic. There are plenty of signals that this wasn’t human made, but overall, it works. Barren landscapes and post apocalyptic futures look pretty convincing in AI.

Robot by Nobody and the Computer

Made with multiple AI tools

This short film embraces the surreal nature of A.I. video, telling a story about a man who is tired of being replaced by robots. As usual with A.I., the human figures look the most strange, while the robot characters tend to look much more natural. If you like this style, Nobody and the Computer has several projects, including one featuring a pretty convincing deep fake of Alfred Hitchcock.

Billy Joel – Turn the Lights Back On by Partizan Entertainment

Made with multiple AI tools

This ADC and Webby award-winning video uses hours of archival footage and AI tools to bring viewers through Billy Joel’s five-decade long career in one four minute video. It’s an impressive effect that only AI could have produced.

Any Colour You Like by Damián Gaume

Made with Stable Diffusion and Blender

AI’s trippy, amorphous style seems like a perfect complement to the psychedelic, experimental music of Pink Floyd, and Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason agrees. He was part of a panel that named this video among the 10 winners of an animated music video competition to celebrate The Dark Side of the Moon’s golden anniversary. Some contestants were not happy about it though.

Beatrice by Old New Rare

Made with Gen-3 Alpha from Runway

This short documentary style video won the Grand Prix in the Gen:48 competition held by Runway which recognizes the best AI videos made with Runway technology. Like many of these videos, it leans into the surreal nature of AI to create something haunting and beautiful. This is a video that could have been made with live action, but some of the shots are much easier in AI.

Creative People Make Great Videos

The best AI videos highlight that generative AI can be impressive, unusual, efficient, and sometimes unsettling. Yet the creative people behind each of these projects used it to make something unique. Even as AI evolves, we believe human creativity and vision will always be an essential part of any quality video.
